Skullcandy makes great headphones and earbuds with cutting wireless technology. They fit great in ears and literally sound great.

However, like all wireless earbuds, they will give you a pairing headache every once in a while. One of the issues is Skullcandy Indy Evo earbuds not pairing together and only one earbud getting audio.

Usually, the left earbud won’t connect and will not work normally.

Most of the time, the pairing works flawlessly but sometimes, you will find only one earbud paired and the other disconnected. This has been a common problem with Skullcandy.

How to pair Skullcandy Indy Evo earbuds?

Like most wireless earbuds, pairing Skullcandy earbuds is quite straightforward. Follow the below simple process:

  1. Put the earbuds in the charging case, and check the red LED comes on both earbuds.
  2. Remove the earbuds together, and they will automatically enter pairing mode.
  3. On your phone, under Bluetooth devices, you will see Indy Evo. Tap it to start pairing.
  4. You will get a prompt for a Bluetooth pairing request. Tap Pair.
  5. Earbud LEDs will turn blue when connected.

This is the normal process of pairing Skullcandy Indy Evo earbuds. However, sometimes, things don’t work out as smoothly.

One of the major issues Indy users have been facing is when the Indy earbuds won’t pair together, and only one earbud pair and work while the other remains inactive.

This article will list simple steps to solve these common pairing issues.

This is one of the most common issues with Skullcandy Indy. Sometimes, the normal pairing process will not work.

When you take out both earbuds from the case, they should first pair together and then show up on your phone as a single Bluetooth device.

However, Skullcandy has designed Indys to be used in mono mode as well, which means they can be paired separately to your phone and can be used alone.

This creates some unintended pairing problems.

If the earbuds don’t pair with each other first, the two earbuds will show up as two separate devices on your phone’s Bluetooth list (see image below)

When this happens, only one earbud will connect to your phone in mono mode, and the other will remain inactive.

Usually, you will not get any audio on the left Indy evo earbud.

Someone who doesn’t know about the solo mode or the need for earbuds to first pair together before pairing to the phone might think this is a fault.

How to pair Skullcandy Indy earbuds together?

The solution to this unintended result of mono mode in the Indy earbuds is quite easy. You have to unpair the earbuds and power cycle them so that they can start fresh.

To do this, follow the below steps. You can give it another go if it doesn’t work on the first try.

1. Unpair your earbuds from phone

First, open your phone’s Bluetooth list and remove your earbuds. If you have two Indy Evo devices registered, you can Forget both devices.

After removing the earbuds from the Bluetooth list, turn OFF your Bluetooth (important)

2. Power off your Indy earbuds

Remove both Indy earbuds from the case and power them off. To power off, touch and hold each bud for 6 seconds.

You will see the LED light flash Red & Blue until it becomes Red and shuts off. Repeat this process for the other earbud as well.

3. Reset the earbuds

This is the main step. Once your earbuds are disconnected from your phone and turned OFF, you can power cycle or reset them.

To do this, touch and hold both earbuds together for 10 seconds. Both earbuds will enter reset mode, where they will go through these states; POWER ON > PAIRING > POWER OFF > POWER ON

You will hear both earbuds saying power on, pairing, power off and power on. Release the button when you hear the 2nd Power on message.

Now your earbuds are reset.

4. Sync the buds together

When the reset is done, put the earbuds back into the charging case, wait a few seconds, and then take them back out together.

The earbuds will then try to sync and pair together. The blue LED flashes intermittently on both buds until the syncing is done.

Once both earbuds are synced together, the blue LEDs will stop flashing, and the left earbud will enter pairing mode (Red & Blue flashing starts).

5. Pair earbuds to phone

Finally, you are going to pair your earbuds to your phone. Turn your Bluetooth on and look for discovered devices under the Bluetooth devices list.

You will see Indy Evo in the list. Tap and start the pairing process.

During the pairing process, you will get the confirmation prompt TWICE. You have to approve both pairing requests.

Once the earbuds are paired successfully, you will see two Indy Evo devices in the paired Bluetooth devices list – one for each bud – and both will show “Connected

Now you can enjoy interruption-free high-quality Skullcandy music.

Normally, the Skullcandy earbuds pair with your phone without any issues. I have owned my pair of Indys for more than six months now, and they have caused pairing issues only a few times.

The simplest solution to these pairing issues is a power cycle and pairing again with your phone. The whole process can be done in under a minute or two so it is not a big deal.
